Learning Opportunity: Using Picture Books to Start Conversations with Young Children

Join the Office of Child Development on February 28 for a free, interactive experience designed to allow early care and education instructors to consider how they have used used books to start conversations with young children and some factors that will allow them to improve upon their practice and be intentional about their use of picture books. The presenters for this workshop will touch upon the use of picture books to meet children where they are around topics such as expressing feelings, positive racial identity, inclusion and trauma. This course will specifically address diversity and inclusion as part of the presentation and exploration of using picture books with children. Participants will be asked what books they already use and will discuss other books that could be used for this purpose as well as how approach the use of these books.
